Browser script execution via unsanitized maintenance banner
Published Jun 24, 2025 · Updated Jun 24, 2025
Stored XSS in NetBox Community Edition 4.1.7 through 4.2.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in users' browsers. The warning alert template renders the user-controlled maintenance-banner message as HTML without sanitizing it, causing the payload to run on pages displaying the warning. An account permitted to add configuration revisions must set the malicious banner and enable maintenance mode; subsequent page views trigger the script.
