CVE-2024-56787

Boot disruption via dropped deferred-probe error

Published Jan 8, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

A deferred-probe flaw in the Linux kernel's i.MX8M SoC driver allows local users to disrupt system availability during boot. soc-imx8m.c treats an EPROBE_DEFER result from of_clk_get_by_name() as a revision value instead of returning it from probe for a later retry. Reachability requires i.MX8M Plus hardware and the non-default driver_async_probe=* kernel command-line setting.
