CVE-2024-56767

Kernel crash via unchecked DMA descriptor return

Published Jan 6, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the at_xdmac DMA driver in affected Linux kernels allows local users to crash the kernel via a DMA memset request. at_xdmac_prep_dma_memset dereferences the descriptor returned by at_xdmac_memset_create_desc without first checking for NULL; an invalid length or an empty free-descriptor list during memory exhaustion produces that return. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and reaches only availability, interrupting the system through a kernel crash.
