Kernel crash via unchecked mode duplication failure
Published Dec 29, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Himax HX83102 panel driver in Linux 6.11 allows local users to crash the kernel during low-memory conditions. The panel mode-enumeration path fails to check whether drm_mode_duplicate() returned NULL before dereferencing the returned mode. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access, the HX83102 panel driver, and an allocation failure; the documented consequence is kernel availability loss only.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
