CVE-2024-56708

Kernel crash via igen6 module-unload double free

Published Dec 28, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Double-free in the EDAC igen6 driver in affected Linux kernel versions allows local users with module-management privilege to crash the kernel. During removal, mci_release() frees mci->pvt_info even though it points inside igen6_pvt, and igen6_remove() then frees igen6_pvt again. Reaching the faulty removal path requires CAP_SYS_MODULE and a loadable igen6 driver; the documented consequence is a segmentation fault during rmmod.
