CVE-2024-56707

Kernel crash via unchecked mailbox error pointer

Published Dec 28, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Improper error handling in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash systems through the octeontx2 PF network driver. The otx2_dmacflt_do_add and otx2_dmacflt_update paths dereference the response from otx2_mbox_get_rsp without first rejecting an error pointer. Exploitation requires local access, Marvell OcteonTX2 hardware, and a mailbox error while adding or updating a destination MAC filter; the resulting invalid dereference can stop the kernel.
