CVE-2024-56683

System hang via suspended HDMI register read

Published Dec 28, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Denial of service in the Linux kernel VC4 HDMI driver allows local users to hang the system by reading its debug registers. The hdmi1_regs debugfs handler accesses VC4 HDMI registers after suspend disables the DVP clock, causing the register read to stall the AXI bus. Exploitation requires local debugfs access while the HDMI connector is disconnected, and the consequence is a fatal system hang.
