Kernel panic via ALSA symlink error warning
Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated Jun 1, 2026
Denial of service in affected Linux kernel builds starting at 5.13 allows local users to crash the kernel through an ALSA symlink error. The snd_ctl_led_sysfs_add function passes either ALSA control-device sysfs_create_link failure to WARN() rather than logging an ordinary error. Reachability requires local low-privilege access and a control-device registration that makes symlink creation fail; a crash additionally requires panic_on_warn to be enabled.
