CVE-2024-56648

Service interruption via truncated VLAN frame

Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in the Linux kernel HSR subsystem allows local users to interrupt service by sending a malformed VLAN frame. The fill_frame_info() function trusts skb->mac_len when a 14-byte packet claims to carry a VLAN header, then reads frame fields beyond initialized data. Low-privileged local access capable of sending an HSR packet is required; the reported outcome is a kernel memory-safety fault and loss of availability.
