Local system compromise via premature reference release
Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux SCSI generic driver allows local users to compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability. sg_release drops the final sfp reference before unlocking open_rel_lock, so deferred cleanup can free sfp while the function still accesses sfp or sdp. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and winning the cleanup race while closing an sg file descriptor.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
