CVE-2024-5659

Unrecoverable controller fault via abnormal mDNS packet

Published Jun 14, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Denial of service in Rockwell Automation controllers at firmware 34.011 or 4.001 allows attackers to trigger an unrecoverable fault. The mDNS listener mishandles an abnormal multicast packet sent to UDP port 5353; Rockwell has not disclosed the specific parsing or control-flow error. No authentication or user interaction is required, and one packet can fault every affected controller on the same network, interrupting control availability.
