Kernel oops via premature video-device registration
Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel Amphion VPU driver allows local users to trigger a kernel oops by opening a video device. The driver registers the video device before attaching its private driver data, so video_drvdata() can return NULL in the open file operation. Reachability requires low-privilege local access to an affected Amphion video-device node; the documented consequence is an availability interruption, with no reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
