Local kernel crash via uninitialized video drvdata
Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the i.MX JPEG driver in Linux allows local users to crash the kernel by opening its video device. The driver registers the video device before video_set_drvdata initializes its driver data, so an early open reaches video_drvdata and dereferences NULL. Exploitation requires low-privilege access to the i.MX JPEG video device during registration and causes a kernel oops that interrupts service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
