CVE-2024-56566

Kernel crash via corrupted SLUB list removal

Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

List corruption in the Linux kernel allows local users to crash affected systems by freeing an object from a corrupted SLUB slab. After alloc_consistency_checks fails, SLUB marks every object used and removes the slab from the partial list; remove_full() later deletes that unlisted slab again. The path requires the slub_debug=UFPZ boot setting and a failed allocation consistency check, and the observed consequence is a kernel BUG and service interruption.
