CVE-2024-56562

System instability via wrong I3C address release

Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Memory-management error in the Linux kernel I3C core from 5.0 allows local users to destabilize the system during device cleanup. i3c_master_put_i3c_addrs() tests init_dyn_addr but passes dyn_addr to i3c_bus_set_addr_slot_status(), releasing the wrong bus address slot. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and an I3C device initialized with a dynamic address; the bounded consequence is system instability.
