CVE-2024-5655Network attack vector

Pipeline impersonation via automatic merge-request retargeting

Published Jun 26, 2024 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Improper access control in GitLab allows remote authenticated users to trigger pipelines as other users on affected releases. The vendor ties the flaw to automatic pipeline execution when a merge request is retargeted after its previous target branch is merged, but does not identify the faulty function. A low-privileged authenticated account is required; exploitation runs CI/CD work under another user's identity, with confidentiality and integrity consequences but no reported service interruption.
