Protection mechanism failure in Siemens SIMATIC industrial computers allows local users with administrator access to disable the BIOS password. Firmware insufficiently protects EFI variables from direct writes through the flash controller, permitting the password state to be cleared without BIOS authorization. Root or administrator operating-system access is required; exploitation removes the firmware password barrier and exposes protected BIOS settings.
