Privilege escalation via unchecked IAM import
Published Dec 16, 2024 · Updated Dec 16, 2024
Privilege escalation in MinIO before RELEASE.2024-12-13T22-19-12Z allows remote authenticated users to gain consoleAdmin access. The importIAM handler validates request signatures but fails to require ImportIAMAction before applying policy mappings from an uploaded iam-info.zip archive. Any nonanonymous account can rewrite its own user_mappings.json entry and obtain consoleAdmin privileges after a service restart.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
