SSH access via traversal-based arbitrary file write
Published Dec 23, 2024 · Updated Dec 24, 2024
Path traversal in the Gogs file update API before 0.13.1 allows remote authenticated users to write files outside a repository. The PutContents handler passed the wildcard URL path to UpdateRepoFile without cleaning traversal sequences, allowing ../ segments to escape the repository Git directory. A user with repository write access and a personal access token can overwrite the service account's SSH authorized_keys file and then obtain SSH access as that account.
