CVE-2024-55894Network attack vector

Password resets and session termination via CSRF

Published Jan 14, 2025 · Updated May 20, 2025

CSRF in the TYPO3 CMS Backend User Module allows remote attackers to reset backend-user passwords or terminate sessions via malicious links. The module's initiatePasswordReset and terminateBackendUserSession actions accepted state-changing HTTP GET requests instead of requiring POST. Exploitation requires an active backend session and victim interaction; drive-by delivery additionally requires disabled referrer checks and lax or absent SameSite restrictions.
