CVE-2024-5569

Application hang via unsanitized ZIP member paths

Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Oct 15, 2025

Denial of service in jaraco zipp before 3.19.1 allows local users to hang an application by supplying a malformed ZIP archive. CompleteDirs exposes member names containing leading separators and dot segments without normalization, causing Path operations to enter a nonterminating resolution cycle. The application must process attacker-controlled names through Path.joinpath, the division operator, or iterdir; the loop blocks that application without exhausting system resources.
