Authenticated root file write via path traversal
Published Mar 11, 2025 · Updated Mar 11, 2025
Path traversal in the FortiWeb API in Fortinet FortiWeb 7.0.0 through 7.6.0 allows remote authenticated users to write files. The cgi_xmlprotection_xmlschemafile_post function passes a user-controlled path to file operations without validation, creating XML schema files as root. Administrative authentication is required, and exploitation can place XML schema files outside the intended directory with root-level filesystem access.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <=7.0.10
