CVE-2024-55566

File overwrite via predictable temporary pathname

Published Dec 9, 2024 · Updated Apr 4, 2025

Predictable temporary files in ColPack 1.0.10 through 9a7293a allow local users to overwrite files or interrupt graphing. The temporary-name logic in src/Utilities/extra.cpp derives a /tmp pathname from rand() without first seeding the generator. A low-privileged local user must anticipate the name and induce another user to run graph generation, enabling file replacement or denial of graphing service.
