Code execution via unchecked cross-site API requests
Published Dec 10, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
CSRF in Avenwu Whistle 2.9.90 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through malicious API requests. The /cgi-bin handlers accept browser simple requests without validating the request site, letting a hostile page add values and dynamic rules whose scripts escape Node.js vm isolation. A victim must visit an attacker-controlled page while Whistle is running; the resulting commands execute with Whistle's host privileges.
