User impersonation and data theft via permissive CORS
Published Jul 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Origin validation error in Stition Devika allows remote attackers to read sensitive settings and act as a user through a malicious site. In devika.py, the Flask-CORS middleware is initialized as CORS(app), so API responses accept requests from arbitrary origins instead of an origin allowlist. A user must visit attacker-controlled content while Devika is reachable in the browser; exposed logs, sessions, and API keys can be read, and project or message actions can be issued.
