CVE-2024-55414

Local privilege escalation via unrestricted memory-mapping IOCTLs

Published Jan 7, 2025 · Updated Jan 8, 2025

Improper access control in Motorola SM56 Modem WDM Driver 6.12.23.0 allows local users to escalate privileges through crafted IOCTL requests. The SmSrlIoControl dispatcher accepts IOCTLs 0x1B2890 and 0x1B2880 without restricting caller privileges, then locks and maps caller-supplied memory pages with modify access. A low-privileged local account with access to the driver device can abuse the mapping primitive to disclose memory or execute code with kernel privileges.
