Stored XSS via unescaped Advanced settings
Published Jul 22, 2024 · Updated Mar 18, 2025
Stored XSS in WP QuickLaTeX before 3.8.8 allows remote authenticated users with administrator access to inject scripts through plugin settings. The Advanced-tab textarea stores attacker-controlled settings without sanitization and renders them without output escaping when the page reloads. Administrator access is required, and exposure is limited to multisite installations or sites that disable unfiltered_html; viewing the injected page executes the script in that site's origin.
