CVE-2024-55195Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via oversized PNM resolution

Published Jan 23, 2025 · Updated Jan 28, 2025

Uncontrolled resource allocation in OpenImageIO 3.1.0.0dev allows attackers to crash image-processing applications via malformed PNM images. The PNM reader accepts an invalid, oversized resolution, causing ImageBufImpl::new_pixels to request memory beyond the allocator's supported maximum. The application must process the crafted image, and the demonstrated outcome is process termination rather than data disclosure or modification.
