CVE-2024-55194Public exploit

Heap over-read via truncated PGM statistics

Published Jan 23, 2025 · Updated Jan 28, 2025

Heap-buffer over-read in OpenImageIO 3.1.0.0dev allows attackers to access memory past an image buffer by processing a truncated PGM file. A failed PGM read frees local pixel memory but leaves m_bufspan stale, and --printstats continues into computePixelStats on the invalid image. The published proof of concept requires a crafted file to be opened with oiiotool and demonstrates an AddressSanitizer-detected four-byte read.
