CVE-2024-55156Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Host file disclosure via external entity expansion

Published Feb 21, 2025 · Updated Mar 17, 2025

XXE in the CloudEvents Java SDK 4.0.1 allows attackers to read host files through crafted XML-formatted event messages. The XML deserializer retrieves an attacker-hosted external DTD, expands an entity containing a local file, and sends its value to an attacker-controlled URL. Reachability requires a consuming application to pass untrusted XML to deserialize(); CISA assesses low privileges and user interaction, and the demonstrated consequence is file disclosure.
