Administrator takeover via executable profile-image upload
Published Jan 6, 2025 · Updated Jan 6, 2025
Stored XSS in Grocy 4.3.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain administrator access through a crafted profile image. The profile editor accepts HTML or SVG content as an image, stores it, and serves the uploaded file in a form that executes its JavaScript when opened directly. Any user can upload the payload, but an administrator must open its URL for the demonstrated script to replace the administrator password.
