Flight software crash via command queue overflow

Published Mar 25, 2025 · Updated Mar 26, 2025

Denial of service in NASA Fprime 3.4.3 allows remote attackers to crash flight software by flooding the Command Dispatcher queue. The seqCmdBuff_handlerBase path treats a full nonblocking command queue as an assertion failure, and the default assertion handling raises SIGABRT. Repeated commands from an external sequencer or ground system are required; the demonstrated consequence is process termination and zombie threads.
