Stored XSS via unvalidated dashboard widget key
Published May 14, 2025 · Updated May 20, 2025
Stored XSS in Netgate pfSense CE 2.7.2 and earlier and Plus 24.11 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript. The dashboard framework stores an unvalidated widgetkey as an XML key in config.xml, and log.widget.php emits a controlled stored value directly inside a script block. Dashboard access and a later dashboard view are required; the payload runs in the viewer's session, while malformed XML can also make configuration unreadable and prevent boot.
