Root login via preset firmware credential
Published Dec 6, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in Ubiquiti U7-Pro 7.0.35 allow attackers to log in to the access point as root over an adjacent network. The firmware image stores a preset root-account password hash in /etc/shadow instead of a device-unique credential. Ubiquiti disputes exploitability because deployment forces a new password during installation, so the evidence does not establish a usable default credential on an installed device.
