Unauthorized NVRAM modification via environment variables
Published Jan 27, 2025 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Improper validation in MobileAccessoryUpdater in Apple macOS before 15.2 allows local users to edit NVRAM variables through an app. The component inadequately validates environment variables before using them for protected NVRAM writes, allowing app-supplied values to reach the write operation. A low-privileged local app is required, and the established consequence is unauthorized NVRAM modification rather than code execution or data disclosure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
