Subscriber-level option modification via unchecked AJAX handlers
Published Jun 5, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in ProfileGrid 5.8.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to modify WordPress options or group icons. The pm_dismissible_notice handler passes an attacker-controlled option name to update_option with the value 1, while pm_wizard_update_group_icon updates group-icon data; neither function verifies a capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient, and exploitation can alter arbitrary site options or group appearance without reported data disclosure or service interruption.
