CVE-2024-54462

File overwrite via unsanitized provider filenames

Published Jan 29, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025

Path traversal in Google image_picker_android 0.8.5+6 through 0.8.12+17 allows local users to overwrite files in an app cache. FileUtils.getPathFromUri trusts a ContentProvider DISPLAY_NAME and constructs an output File without removing slash or dot-dot path segments. Exploitation requires a malicious document provider installed on the Android device and user interaction to select its image; impact is limited to overwriting files reachable in the affected app's cache.
