Credential disclosure via weakly encoded password file
Published May 28, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024
Weak password encoding in Campbell Scientific CSI Web Server 1.6 and RTMC 5.0 allows attackers with file access to recover stored credentials. The specifically named .csipasswd file stores passwords in an encoding that permits decoding rather than protecting their confidentiality. The file is not remotely reachable under the documented configuration unless manually renamed, but recovered passwords can be reused for web access.
