CVE-2024-54028Public exploit

Code execution via DIFAT sector-size underflow

Published Jun 2, 2025 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Integer underflow in Catdoc 0.95 allows attackers to execute code by providing a malformed OLE document with an undersized sector value. In ole_init, a sectorSize below 4 underflows the (sectorSize-4)*i offset, causing fread to write document bytes outside the allocated heap buffer. The file must be processed by catdoc, xls2csv, or catppt, and successful corruption executes code in the utility's process context.
