Protected directory creation via installer symlink
Published Dec 3, 2024 · Updated Dec 3, 2024
Symlink handling in the Samsung Magician 8.1.0 installer on Windows allows local users to create folders in a system permission directory. During installation, the installer follows an attacker-created symbolic link and creates the linked folder instead of rejecting the link. Local low-privileged access and interaction with an installation are required; the documented consequence is limited to folder creation.
