Database data manipulation via $where match injection

Search injection in Automattic Mongoose before 8.8.3 allows remote attackers to read or modify database data through populate() match. The getModelsMapForPopulate helper passed a match object containing a top-level $where clause into MongoDB instead of rejecting it, allowing attacker-supplied JavaScript to execute during query evaluation. Exploitation requires a consuming application to place attacker-controlled input in populate() match and a MongoDB deployment that executes $where; successful queries can expose or alter stored data.
