CVE-2024-53858

Authentication token disclosure via unrestricted credential helper

Published Nov 27, 2024 · Updated Dec 3, 2024

Sensitive-information exposure in GitHub CLI before 2.63.0 allows attackers to obtain authentication tokens through a crafted repository. The gh repo clone, gh repo fork, and gh pr checkout commands configure gh as Git's credential helper for every submodule host, causing non-GitHub hosts to receive tokens. Exploitation requires a user to process a repository containing an attacker-controlled submodule, after which the token can access its authorized resources.
