Inventory overselling via non-atomic stock updates
Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated Dec 28, 2024
Race condition in SimplCommerce at commit 230310c8d7a0408569b292c5a805c459d47a1d8f allows remote attackers to oversell stock via concurrent checkouts. The CreateOrder method in OrderService.cs checks availability and later updates stock without an atomic transaction or lock, so concurrent requests can observe the same available quantity. Exploitation requires simultaneous checkouts from multiple accounts for the same limited-stock item; duplicate orders can drive inventory negative and leave orders unfulfilled.
