Command execution via unsanitized report filename
Published Dec 5, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
Command injection in whapa 1.59 allows local users to execute shell commands by opening an HTML report with a crafted filename. The report method inserts the selected path into a quoted xdg-open command and passes it to os.system without shell escaping, so embedded quotes and metacharacters become commands. Exploitation requires Linux and user interaction to select the attacker-crafted report; injected commands run with the whapa user's privileges.
