CVE-2024-53427Public exploit

Process crash via NaN comparison overflow

Published Feb 26, 2025 · Updated Mar 28, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in jq 1.7.1 and earlier allows local users to crash the process via a crafted NaN payload. decNumberCopy treats a NaN carrying at least ten decimal payload digits as numeric and copies it past the stack-allocated comparison result. The flaw is reached when jq compares attacker-controlled numeric input, and the published proof demonstrates an AddressSanitizer abort rather than code execution.
