Account takeover via unsafe redirect sanitization
Published Dec 11, 2024 · Updated Dec 12, 2024
Reflected XSS in HabitRPG Habitica before 5.28.5 allows remote attackers to execute JavaScript through a crafted redirectTo link. The login and socialAuth handlers assign a DOMPurify-cleaned redirectTo value to window.location.href, but the sanitizer fails to reject the javascript scheme. A victim must follow the link and then log in or register; the script runs in the victim's session and can read the stored user ID and API key, enabling account control.
