CVE-2024-53268Public exploit

One-click code execution via unfiltered URI schemes

Published Nov 25, 2024 · Updated Nov 25, 2024

Code injection in Joplin Desktop before 3.0.3 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code through a malicious link on Windows. The openItem command passes a link URI to Electron's openExternal without restricting its scheme, allowing a crafted non-web URI to invoke an operating-system handler. Exploitation requires a Joplin user on Windows to click the attacker-supplied link; successful execution runs code with that user's privileges.
