Host compromise via unchecked SBI extension index
Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Improper array-index validation in Linux KVM for RISC-V allows local users to compromise kernel confidentiality, integrity, and availability. During kvm_riscv_vcpu_sbi_init(), the extension walk uses entry->ext_idx to index an array without first rejecting the out-of-range marker reserved for base extensions. The flaw is reachable only on RISC-V hosts running KVM, and low-privileged local access is required; no public exploit has been identified.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
