Device malfunction via delayed crystal clock registration
Published Dec 27, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026
Clock initialization error in Linux 6.5 through 6.12.1 causes device malfunction during boot on older Ralink SoCs. drivers/clk/ralink/clk-mtmips.c registers dependent clocks before their required xtal base clock, delaying those probes. The condition is limited to RT2880, RT305x, and RT3883 hardware; public records report a warning and incorrect initial clock plan, not data access or code execution.
