CVE-2024-53104Known exploitation

Privilege escalation via undersized UVC frame buffer

Published Dec 2, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel uvcvideo driver allows physically proximate attackers to escalate privileges through a crafted UVC device. uvc_parse_streaming sizes its frame buffer without counting UVC_VS_UNDEFINED descriptors, while uvc_parse_format still parses them and writes frame data past the allocation. Exploitation requires attaching a malicious USB video device; the resulting overwrite corrupts kernel memory and can grant elevated execution.
